Syllabus:Systemic and brief solution-focused approaches when working with couples and families. Through discussion, role-plays and reflection, these informative and practical contemporary approaches will be critically appraised. Specific attention will be given to counselling Indigenous Australians and those people of non-dominant cultures.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have- Explored and made transparent the philosophical beliefs, attitudes and values of systemic and solution-focused approaches. Introduced to practices and skills of each counselling approach while considering the implications of each from a critical practitioner stance. Sensitised to the diversity and characteristics of families. Understood the importance of culturally appropriate counselling when working with people from indigenous and non-dominant cultures.
