Syllabus:The main microorganisms involved in hospital infections, their characteristics, how they cause disease and how they are transmitted.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - Developed a sound knowledge of the major pathogenic organisms which cause human disease including bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi. Developed an understanding of the pathogenesis of infectious disease caused by the organisms studied. Demonstrated a knowledge of the more common infectious diseases affecting various body sites and the laboratory methods used to investigate these diseases. Developed an awareness of recent developments and research in medical microbiology.
