Syllabus:Pain - theory, effects, causes and control. Measurement of pain and behavioural aspects. Sport - classification of injury, principles of treatment, sports footwear, psychological aspects of sports. Common sports injuries relevant to the podiatrist. Rehabilitation. Dermatology - structure and function of skin an skin pathologies relevant to the foot and leg.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - An understanding of different clinical presentations of pain and their treatment. An understanding of caring for the injured athlete. The ability to recognise common skin conditions of concern tothe podiatrist and understand the general principles of treatment. An understanding of the physical and psychological implications of generalised skin conditions.
