Syllabus:An overview of the financial system including financial institutions and markets, the banking sector, non-bank financial institutions. It covers equity markets, including the sharemarket and the corporation, the corporate and government debt market, the foreign exchange and derivative markets and risk management, including futures, forwards, options, interest rate and currency swaps.
 
Unit Outcomes: On completion of this unit students will have - A thorough knowledge of the operations and functions of financial institutions and financial markets. Dealt with corporate and government debt instruments, equity instruments and their macroeconomic, microeconomic and institutional environments. Have a Knowledge of the types of market risks (including portfolio, interest rate and exchange rate risks) faced by financial institutions and how these risks are managed and controlled especially through the prudent use of financial derivatives.
