Syllabus:Material and inventory management as part of the logistics process. Planning and control of inventory, purchasing, procurement and production. Warehousing, storage. Just-in-time (JIT), materials requirement planning (MRP), distribution requirements planning. Supplier selection, evaluation and outsourcing. Measurement and evaluation of material management activities. Integrating material management, transportation and order processing logistics functions.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - Understood the role of materials management in the logistics process. Explained the tools and techniques to plan and manage control of inventory and production, warehousing and storage, and materials transportation. Described materials and distribution requirements planning. Recognised criteria for supplier selection and outsourcing evaluation.
