Syllabus:Introduction and analysis of the idea of an 'information age'. Exploration of the processes of globalisation and convergence and their implications, historical and cross-cultural perspectives on media and information, models and theories of communication and information, and the future of media, communication and information.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Understand better the current media, communication and information environment. Understand better the historical background to the media, communication and information environment. Demonstrate awareness of fields of scholarship, especially media studies, information studies, and communication studies. Recognise arguments encountered in reading material. Develop an argument in an essay. Develop skills in utilising new communications technology to improve learning. Develop the process of developing high-quality skills in reading, thinking, writing and communicating at a university level.
