Syllabus:Multi-dimensional anatomy of the thorax, abdomen and pelvis. Introductory pathology - disease processes and body defence mechanisms, infection and inflammation, cell necrosis, intravascular and vascular disturbances, hypertrophy, hyperplasia, atrophy, hypoplasia, trauma, neoplasia, pathological effects of ionizing radiation. Pathology and trauma of the musculoskeletal system.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit the student will have gained the ability to identify and describe the anatomy demonstrated on sectional images and cadaver sections of the thorax, abdomen and pelvis, describe the imaging appearances of various tissues and air on CT, MR and cadaver sections, explain the appearances of structures on significant images and sections, use the Learning Images program to assist with their understanding of the sectional anatomy of the upper abdomen and correlate cadaver, CTand MR sections. They will be able to describe disease processes, cellular responses to injury, body defenses, pathological effects of ionizing radiation, infectious disease, neoplasia, circulatory pathophysiology, vascular disorders, systematic manifestations and pathology of cardiac disease, disturbances of growth and development and abnormalities of the musculoskeletal system.
