Syllabus:Information sources on arid land, natural processes, pastoral land use and production systems. Land degradation incidence and status, monitoring environmental change, nature conservation, mining, tourism and communities. Rehabilitation and revegetation, economics and ecology. Future opportunities for arid landcare in changing environmental, socioeconomic and land use settings.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have- Described the potential and problems associated with the pastoral zone. Described the methodology used to monitor land changes, as a basis for improving pastures and sustained livestock production. Discussed the dynamics of nature conservation, miming, tourism, and communities in the pastoral zone as related to land care. Discussed future opportunities for sustainable arid land care.
