Syllabus:Meetings - teamwork and self regulation. Committees. Development of literacy skills, computer skills, interview skills and techniques. Writing a scientific paper. Turning a scientific paper into a talk, giving an effective talk, preparing overheads, using PowerPoint. Organising and presenting a Conference. Writing a conference attendance report. Applying the experience to personal development and career planning. Developing a CV, applying for jobs and attending interviews. Publication of Conference proceedings and Careers booklet.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will be able to communicate verbally and in written form as professional scientists do. They will be able to write formatted scientific papers and reports using technology such as word processors, spreadsheets and graphics software, give effective oral presentations of ideas and information using PowerPoint, organise and participate in conferences, and communicate in the language and terminology of 'Science'. They will be better adept to solve problems likely to be encountered in professional life, to work in teams, write report for employers, prepare a CV and interview well and learn by discovery and experience.
