Syllabus:Study of contemporary system and software development technologies, and rapid development and agile development methods. Consideration of the symbiotic relationship between the tools and the methods. Case study in the prototyping development of a database processing system. Organisational strategies for evaluating, selecting and implementing tools.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have - Significant knowledge of the marketplace for system and software development tools and technologies, the types of tools and technologies available, and the range of suppliers and specific tools and technologies available. Significant knowledge of the nature of and the marketplace for system and software development methods appropriate to the use and application of the tools and technologies, and considered to be current best practice, including the publishers, suppliers, authors and education and training courses available. Knowledge and skills in the use of at least one major development tool. Knowledge and understanding of a number of contemporary development methodologies. Ability to recommend upon, plan for, and select appropriate tools and "best practice" methodologies within an organisation.
