Syllabus:Overview of the Australian and world mining industry for non-mining professionals. The nature of mining and its principal characteristics. Mining methods - surface and underground mining, surface mining methods, underground mining methods. Mining technology - unit operations in mining, drilling and fragmentation, excavation and transport, geotechnical analysis, mine occupational health and safety, ventilation environment monitoring and control.
 
Unit Outcomes: On completion of this unit students will have - Had an overview of the Australian mining industry and will be familiarised with the nature of mining and its principal characteristics.
