Syllabus:The cultural significance of natural environment. Identification and evaluation of natural and cultural environment using the Protecting Heritage Places Kit of the Australian Heritage Commission. Local politics and the natural and cultural environment. A case study in using Protecting Heritage Places to develop a strategy to protect a place of natural and cultural - including if relevant, indigenous significance.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have - Effectively used the Australian Heritage Commission's kit, Protecting Heritage Places. Understood the multiple processes involved in preparing documentation that can change the status of a placeand give it heritage protection. Understood the importance of wide consultation in the heritage process. Understood the Statement of Significance, a core type of heritage writing. Understood the writing of a plan for a heritage place.
