| Syllabus: | Database maintenance functions - loading data, establishing referential integrity of data, backup and recovery of data, problems of concurrency and performance issues relating to data locking and query design. Application development using embedded SQL. Data warehousing and data mining. |

| Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have - Created and loaded a database applying various integrity constraints. Tuned database tables and worked out the access path chosen by the query optimiser. Competently carried out some of the functions of database administration. Understood issues in designing concurrent transactions. |
