Syllabus:.Introduction to the basic mechanics of slope failure. Defect and rock mass shear strength. Groundwater effects. Slope failure mechanisms and their analysis. Pit slope design. Slope formation techniques. Slope monitoring techniques and interpretation. WAregulatory framework.
 
Unit Outcomes: On completion of this unit students will have - Identified the common types of rock slope failure. Undertaken deterministic, probabilistic and numerical analysis of slope stability. Designed implementation methods for sloe designs. Undertaken risk - based slope design optimisation. Designed monitoring systems for mine slopes.
