Syllabus:Concepts of homeostasis, physiological control systems. The cell membrane as a regulatory structure, transport processes, chemical and bioelectric equilibra. Information processing in the central nervous system, motor and sensory systems. Control of thirst, hunger, appetite, body temperature. Hormonal and neuroendocrine control processes. Circadian rhythms and their effect on physiological processes. Hemodynamic principles of the circulation, pressures in the circulatory system, transport in the circulation and control of circulation.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to- Understand the role of the circulatory system in maintaining the internal environment. Describe the general structure of the circulatory system. Explain physiological processes involving the circulatory system. Identify the principles of the control systems operating to maintain homeostasis. Explain regulatory processes at the cellular level and through the nervous and endocrine systems. Explain the range of compensatory adjustments possible under various conditions.
