Syllabus:Introduction to doing sociology. Introduction to sociological theory. Sociology of culture and cultural change. Socialisation and identity.. National, ethnic group and personal identities and notions of community. Ideology . Social institutions and institutional change. Sexuality and gender. Families and changing patterns of human relationships. The sociology of knowledge.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- An awareness development of a strong understanding of key sociological schools of thought and concepts. Become comfortable with reading sociological writing. Developed the skills of critical social analysis. Developed the skills of sociological communication and discussion in both written and oral forms.
