Introduction
This course enables students to extend their knowledge of current academic research methodology as it is applied in the field of cartography, and to demonstrate this through the conduct of a supervised research project and preparation of an honours dissertation.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
Refer to Admission into Honours Degree Programs and Regulations for Honours Degrees (General Information section).

Duration and Availability
The honours degree program is of one year's full-time duration after completion of the Bachelor of Science (Cartography) and is also available on a part-time basis over two years.

Course Organisation
Any senior undergraduate unit conducted by the Department of Spatial Sciences is available as an elective unit provided it has not been completed as part of course requirements. Selected postgraduate units offered by the Department of Spatial Sciences may also be available as elective units and taken as Spatial Science Topics 481 or 482. Selected units from other Schools may also be studied as electives. A student's study program, or alteration to it, must be approved by the Head of Department.

Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
