305835 v.1 Master of Medical Engineering

Introduction

This collaborative program is undertaken at the four Western Australian Public Universiities - Curtin University of Technology, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University and the University of Western Australia. It is intended to meet the needs of students and employers for graduates with significant applied experience in medical engineering and provides appropriate practical understanding, skills and knowledge for the use and development of medical technology. It allows professionals an opportunity to upgrade or extend existing qualifications and experience.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A bachelors degree or appropriate graduate entry degree in engineering or science related to medical engineering from any of the four Western Australian Public Universities and/or demonstrated experience in an occupation in the medical engineering or related field.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This fee paying course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study. At this stage, it is not planned to be offered to international students.

Course Organisation

The course consists of four core units (one taken from each university), two optional units and a project dissertation.

Career Opportunities

The development of skills in medical engineering in Western Australia will open a range of opportunities. The principal employment destinations will be the medical engineering departments of public and private hospitals in Australia and overseas and companies carrying out research and development relating to medical technology.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.

Special Note

Students may enrol at any one of the the four participating institutions to undertake this collaborative program provided they satisfy course entry/prerequisite requirements. Curtin course enrolling students - Students who have nominated Curtin as theirEnrolling Institution will enrol at Curtin, undertake Curtin units (including the project dissertation) and complete units at the other participating institutions on a cross-institutional basis. All units will appear in the Curtin academic transcript. Curtin will award the degree on satisfactory completion, such award bearing the crests of all participating institutions. Non-Curtin course enrolling students - Students who have nominated another of the participating institutions as their Enrolling Institution will complete Curtin units cross-institutionally under a non-award program and have those units credited towards their degree.
