Introduction

This course aims to extend students' knowledge of current academic research methodology as it is applied in the field of geophysics and to demonstrate this through the conduct of a supervised research project and preparation of an honours dissertation.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This course is one year full-time equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation

The course structure is a combination of the following - Advanced Studies in Geophysics - one to four full units, Advanced Geophysics Workshop - up to four full units, Honours Dissertation - two to four full units, Background Studies - up to two full units. A dissertation unit is chosen in consultation with the Course Controller or Head of Department. The optional units listed are only an example of units that can be taken, other units are available with consultation with the Course Coordinator or Headof Department.

Professional Recognition

This course is accredited by the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. An Honours degree in Geophysics satisfies the academic requirements for membership to The Exploration Geophysicists (USA) and the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
