Introduction
The course is designed for those outside the discipline of mining engineering who wish to become knowledgeable in the specialist skills of the mining industry and in particular become familiar with mining engineering methods. The course prepares students for managerial responsibilities in the mining industry, prepares for operational management at both quarry and underground managers levels, and satisfies the entry requirements for the postgraduate study of mining engineering.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
At least a three year bachelors degree in geology, mine surveying, engineering or science from a recognised institution.

Specific Requirements
Students are required to complete an approved first aid course prior to being eligible for the award. Course fees must be met by the student.

Recognition of Prior Learning
No recognition of prior learning is considered for this course.

Duration and Availability
The course is of one year full-time duration or equivalent part-time basis. This course is normally taken on an external basis.

Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
