132410 v.4 Bachelor of Science (Chemistry), Bachelor of Science (Computer Science)

BSc(Curtin), BSc(Curtin)

Introduction
This double degree program provides graduates with a solid background in the principles and practices of computer science and chemistry. The combination of the two degrees prepares students for a range of employment opportunities that require computing and technological skills combined with a sound knowledge of chemical sciences.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
Applicable Mathematics or Calculus and Chemistry. Physics desirable. Well performed candidates without some of these subjects may be required to complete special course units as required.

Specific Requirements
The STAT is not acceptable for entry to this course.

Note
In certain cases, the need to complete special units may result in an extension of studies beyond the normal length of the course. Students will normally be expected to have attained a higher Tertiary Entrance Rank than is required for both single degrees.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability
The course is four years full-time study and is available on a full-time and part-time basis.

Course Organisation
Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to the single degree course in one of the two disciplines. In this event the relevant Head of School shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.

Professional Recognition
Graduates from this program meet the requirements for professional level accreditation of the Australian Computer Society. The Royal Australian Chemical Institute recognises the course as fulfilling the academic requirements for graduate membership. On obtaining the necessary experience graduates will be admitted to Membership of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute.

Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.

Special Note
Students who commenced prior to and who are continuing in this double degree program from 2003 have the choice to graduate in the chemistry component with either a Bachelor of Science (Applied Chemistry) or Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) award subject to approval by the Head of School.
