UNIT REFERENCES, TEXTS, OUTCOMES AND ASSESSMENT DETAILS: The most up-to-date information about unit references, texts and outcomes, will be provided in the unit outline.
Syllabus: This unit is designed to increase students' understanding of and skills in physics research. The specific scientific project objectives are determined by the student and supervisor. PHYS3003 Physics Project 1 emphasizes literature searches and reviews of other work with reference to students' preliminary research, experimental planning and the acquisition of experimental, analytical and computational requirements to perform the research.
Further Information: Students are provided with the opportunity to meet with their project supervisor for at least one hour per week and attend weekly research group meetings and seminars as required. Students may receive specific experimental assistance and supervision from technical or other research staff. It is generally expected that a student will spend a significant amount of their own time in this unit in reading scientific publications, planning and writing. The class meets once every two weeks during semester to plan the final seminar program.
