| Syllabus: | Introduction to sedimentology; physical properties of sediments, weathering, erosion and the sediment cycle. Sediment classification. Sedimentary processes and structures. Diagenesis and petrology; post-depositional change and sediment investigation at the microscopic scale. Principles, nomenclature and procedures in stratigraphy; lithostratigraphy, biostratigraphy and sequence stratigraphy. Stratigraphic correlation in the sub-surface. Sedimentary depositional systems and models; environments, facies and basin fill. Sedimentary geochemistry and climate. |
