This unit will investigate if there are the universals of human behaviour, the role of genes in behaviour, archaeology and past behaviours, human diversity and microevolution in modern populations, whether we are still evolving. The laboratory work gives an insight into the methodology of biological anthropology, and develops proficiency in the methods of science in general. Students will develop practical competence in the study of (primate) behaviour, analyse archaeological and palaeontological information, engage in experimental archaeology (stone tool making) and learn the techniques of anthropometric measurement applied to forensics, ergonomics and racial classification.
