Course Overview

Graduate Certificates prepare students to develop advanced knowledge and skills for professional or highly skilled work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications.


This course is designed to develop knowledge of procurement theory and practice with a curriculum focussed on understanding and engaging with business in the global environment. It is an important entry point for those wishing to pursue a Master of Business Administration (Strategic Procurement).

Course Entry and Completion Details

Graduate Certificates contain a series of units which may include compulsory (core), optional or elective units to cater for student preferences.


Specifically, applicants for this course require a bachelor degree from a recognised tertiary institution and at least three years subsequent, relevant work experience. Applicants without an undergraduate course will be considered on the basis of significant work experience (at least eight years) at a recognisable level of responsibility. Entry to the course is competitive and applicants will be required to undertake an interview as the final stage of application assessment.


Credit for Recognised Learning

Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Course Organisation

Graduate Certificates contain a series of units which may include compulsory (core), optional or elective units to cater for student preferences.


The Graduate Certificate in Procurement is awarded on satisfactory completion of three compulsory units (Organisational Behaviour 550, Contract and Procurement Optimisation 501, Legal Environment 561) and an optional unit selected from available business and procurement units. Students wishing to articulate to the Master of Business Administration (Strategic Procurement) should consult with the course advisor.


Course Learning Outcomes

A graduate of this course can:

1. have a thorough foundation of contemporary business theories, concepts and principals and be able to apply these in a group or organisational environment

2. create and critically evaluate innovative ideas and strategies with in ambiguous and uncertain business environments

3. access, evaluate and synthesise diverse information for intelligent business application


Duration and Availability

The course may be completed in 0.5 years full-time or the equivalent in part-time study and can also be completed fully online; refer to the timetable available at http://www.gsb.curtin.edu.au International students on student visas are not permitted to study fully online.
