Course Overview

Master Degrees (Coursework) prepare students to apply advanced knowledge for professional practice, scholarship and further learning corresponding to AQF level 9 qualifications.


This course offers a challenging and flexible program that develops the skills and competencies, knowledge and confidence to gain employment in the global business environment and to make effective decisions in an increasingly uncertain and volatile business environment. It is designed for those aspiring to middle, senior and executive level managerial careers. The program incorporates working in diverse teams, learning independently and doing a consulting project involving a business placement. Entry into 13310 Consulting/ Internship 600 is competitive and as such internship placements are not guaranteed; the alternative is two post graduate elective units to the value of 50 credit points.


Professional Recognition

Depending upon the major area of study chosen, graduates are eligible for membership to the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Management.


Career Opportunities

Graduates generally find employment in supervisory and managerial roles within private and public organisations.

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks and other essential study materials.



Course Entry and Completion Details

Applicants for a Master Degree (Coursework) are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://futurestudents.curtin.edu.au. Subject to the duration of the course applicants usually require a Bachelor Degree or equivalent (and may require relevant work experience), Bachelor Honours Degree, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.


Specifically, applicants require a bachelor degree in a related discipline, a bachelor degree in any discipline and relevant substantial work experience or a Graduate Certificate in a related field.


Credit for Recognised Learning

Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Course Organisation

Master Degrees (Coursework) contain a series of units in a specialised area of study which may include compulsory (core), optional or elective units to cater for student preferences. They may also contain a range of majors/streams for students to choose from.


Students who are required to take foundation units will be expected to take them in the first semester of the course.


Course Learning Outcomes

A graduate of this course can:

1. extend and apply various types of knowledge to evaluate current and emerging trends in management; complet original research work underpin and further this knowledge base.

2. think independently, creatively and innovatively; use critical thinking and reflective practice to generate solutions to management problems.

3. access and synthesise information from multiple sources to make sound judgements and draw evidence based conclusions.

4. communicate in an appropriate professional and confident manner to groups and individuals.

5. use and apply technologies in ways that are beneficial to the workplace

6. take responsibility for one's own learning; continue to apply different learning and development strategies so as to develop lifelong learning.

7. create new approaches of looking at international business issues; participate in a global environment.

8. recognise cultural diversity and deal appropriately with cultural issues to improve business and professional practice

9. critique and reconceptualise the roles of leadership, ethical practice and professional integrity when working within a team and independently


Duration and Availability

This fee-paying course is three semesters, 100 credit per semester, full time or equivalent part time study.
