Course Overview

Master Degrees (Coursework) prepare students to apply advanced knowledge for professional practice, scholarship and further learning corresponding to AQF level 9 qualifications.


This course features guided independent study, team projects and maximum use of information and communication technology towards the development of international business and global managerial competencies.


Professional Recognition

Depending upon the major area of study chosen, graduates are eligible for membership to the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Management.


Career Opportunities

Graduates generally seek employment with companies that have an interest in or focus on international business activities.

Course Entry and Completion Details

Applicants for a Master Degree (Coursework) are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://futurestudents.curtin.edu.au. Subject to the duration of the course applicants usually require a Bachelor Degree or equivalent (and may require relevant work experience), Bachelor Honours Degree, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.


Specifically, applicants require a bachelor degree in a related discipline, a bachelor degree in any discipline and relevant substantial work experience or a Graduate Certificate in a related field.


Credit for Recognised Learning

Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Course Organisation

Master Degrees (Coursework) contain a series of units in a specialised area of study which may include compulsory (core), optional or elective units to cater for student preferences. They may also contain a range of majors/streams for students to choose from.


Course Learning Outcomes

A graduate of this course can:

1. maintain familiarity with current issues and topics in relation to international business management business and the physical environment, global distribution and transportation. Research independently, to extend knowledge in this field.

2. think creatively and reflectively to generate innovative solutions to complex international business scenarios.

3. access, evaluate and synthesise relevant information from a range of sources appropriate in international business scenarios. Make valid judgements based on sound evidence. Analyse case study material and journal articles.

4. communicate effectively to clients, staff, professionals, management and industry within the ethical and professional framework of international business. Prepare written academic reports and prepare and deliver oral presentations at a professional standard.

5. consider profitability, sustainability and impact of the environment, health and society when using new and established technologies in international business negotiations.

6. continue to acquire new knowledge and expertise in the field of international business using a range of learning strategies and reflective practice.

7. describe and evaluate the impacts of international business in a global system. Apply international standards and practices with in a global context.

8. show broad understanding of relevant management and cross cultural communication theoretical concepts. Work effectively in multicultural team environments and make positive contributions to class discussions.

9. work professionally and ethically both independently and collaboratively, complying with appropriate legislation and protocols; demonstrate leadership skills where appropriate.


Duration and Availability

This course is three semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study. Some units are available during the evening. International onshore students on student visas are not permitted to study on a part-time mode.
