This major is designed for those intending to pursue careers in the information technology industry. Examples of some careers include: programmers, systems analysts, systems designers, business analysts, and managers of information technology departments or information centres.

Major/Stream Learning Outcomes

A graduate of this course can:

1. apply current information technology principles that support business operations by providing an appropriate and effective technological base to build upon

2. apply system development analytical techniques to develop innovative technologies appropriate to a range of business organisations

3. evaluate and synthesise a range of system development tools and platforms; languages and environments to select appropriate technology

4. effectively communicate system requirements; document and implement details

5. use and evaluate a variety of appropriate technologies

6. continue to utilise emerging technologies; independently recognise, apply and appreciate new methodologies and their practical application to business innovations and solutions

7. use collaborative technology to appreciate and support international organisation standards and relevant international infrastructure and software development standards

8. recognise the range of potential impacts of information technologies on users and design systems technologies appropriate for a diverse user base

9. ensure ethical practices in areas including but not limited to privacy and information security; demonstrate professional behaviours whilst employing best practice in independent and collaborative environments
