Syllabus: The ability to identify and quantify a wide range of chemical species, often at trace or ultra-trace levels, is essential for the appropriate management of water quality. Often these analyses are required for regulatory purposes and hence must be proven to reliable. Topics to be covered in this unit include: data quality objectives and sampling for water quality measurements; advanced methods for the analysis of oxidants in water treatment; advanced analytical methods for the determination of trace concentrations of organic compounds in aqueous samples; analytical quality assurance and control in the context of approved water quality chemical measurements.
