Syllabus: This unit examines Australian competition law and policy, particularly under the Commonwealth Competition & Consumer Act 2010. The unit discusses the economic policy rationale for competition law, its historical development, both within Australia and overseas, and the key legislative provisions. Anti-competitive practices considered include collusion and other cartel like behaviour, misuse of market power, exclusive dealing, resale price maintenance and anti-competitive mergers. The regulatory role of the ACCC is discussed as well as the role of National Competition Policy.
