Syllabus: History and discourses of social work practice in statutory settings: legislative and administrative base of policies and practice, tensions in reconciling professional practice and statutory obligations. Analysis of contemporary issues focusing on childprotection, criminal justice and mental health systems, working with involuntary clients in a range of government and non-government statutory settings, agency procedures such as risk assessments, case conferences, reports, interagency collaboration, ethics in practice including issues of power and authority, self-determination, confidentiality and promotion of reflexivity and emancipatory practice.
