Introduction

The Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program comprises not more than one third coursework/research preparation, and a minimum of two thirds research program and dissertation. The DBA has been designed to develop highly skilled, critical thinking and practical managers who can also read, carry out and apply the results of the research initiative. It enables them to concentrate on the practical situation and the sensitive aspects that are inescapable in the conduct of business.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

Entry requirements for Domestic Fee-paying applicants: Applicants with 7 years professional business or management experience, and a 75% CWA from an MBA, MLM or equivalent Masters degree. Applicants who are permanent residents of Australia (or Australian citizens) are required to successfully complete the Grad Cert in Business Research (GCBR) which comprises 4 doctoral level units, and must have authorisation from an appropriate research supervisor. The completion of the GCBR, with 75% course weighted average, may enable articulation and RPL towards the DBA. Other requirements include: interview; references; written statement, certified academic record, TOFEL score of 580 (if appropriate), IELTS score of 7.0 (if appropriate). Entry requirements for International applicants: International applicants with seven years professional business or management experience, and a 75% CWA from an MBA, MLM or equivalent Masters degree are eligible to apply for this degree. For visa requirements, international applicants will be allowed direct entry into the DBA, when they have authorisation of an appropriate research supervisor. Other requirements include: interview; references; written statement, certified academic record, TOFEL score of 580, IELTS score of 7.0.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning will be awarded to permanent resident or Australian citizen applicants who have successfully completed the Graduate Certificate in Business Research course, consisting of four (4) doctoral level units. The credits awarded will be equivalent to Year 1, Semester 1 (100 credit points of RPL exemptions).

Duration and Availability

A minimum of three years and a maximum of four years equivalent full-time study.

Course Organisation

This course is studied as a research degree. It is a requirement that at least two-thirds of this course is undertaken by research and the remainder by coursework. The content of the degree should be determined in consultation with the postgraduate coordinator, Graduate School of Business. Students without prior studies in research methods and statistical data analysis are required to undertake relevant preparatory units. This may increase the stated course duration. The thesis follows Rule Ten: Degreeof Doctor of Research.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.

Further Information

International students must maintain a 75% course average in the first semester to continue the course.
