Introduction

This course enables students to extend their knowledge of current academic research methodology in the following major areas of study; Chemistry, Computer Science, Forensic Science, Mathematical Sciences, Physics and Multidisciplinary Science. This will be demonstrated through studying a specialised methodology unit, units in their specialised area and the conduct of a supervised research project and presentation of an honours dissertation.

Course Entry Requirements / Prerequisite

Entrance into this course requires the completion of a relevant degree at the appropriate level. Refer to admission into Honours Degree Programs and Regulation for Honours Degrees in the Curtin University of Technology Handbook (General Information section).

Duration and Availability

This course is one year full-time study. Two intakes are offered each year in March and August. Prospective students should note that places may not always be available for the August intake.

Course Organisation

The honours program is in two sections. The coursework section consists of studies in research methodologies and a unit chosen from the specialised field of study. The second section is an honours research project and written dissertation describing the research and findings.

Additional Course Expenses

Students are expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials. Students may require a laboratory coat.

Special Note

Any third year units chosen as an option will be assessed at a higher level. Students are expected to demonstrate a high level of understanding and will be assessed accordingly. Third year units may not exceed a total of 50 credit points.
