Introduction

This double degree provides students with a broad education in the areas of social sciences and media information. Students will find the diverse communication, research, communication and problem solving skills taught as part of the Social Science degree highly complementary to all areas of media and information. Students choose a Social Science major from Anthropology, Sociology, History, Politics and International Relations, and Geography, and a Media and Information major from Journalism, Film and Television, Librarianship and Corporate Information Management, and Internet Studies.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

TEE English or English Literature, minimum scaled mark of 60 desirable.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

The course is four years full-time or equivalent part-time study. Provided that the stipulated prerequisites and corequisites are fulfilled, enrolment on a part-time basis is permitted.

Course Organisation

Students undertake an anthropology, geography, history, politics and international relations or sociology major in combination with either the film and television, internet studies, journalism or librarianship and corporation information management major. Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two disciplines. In this event the relevant Head of Department shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
