Shear strength of soil, mechanics, Mohr's Theory of Failure, direct shear test, drained direct shear test on saturated sand and clay and general comments on direct shear test. Triaxial shear test. Vane shear test. Sensitivity and thixotrophy of Clay.Soil bearing capacity for shallow foundations. Bearing capacity equations. Footings with eccentric of inclined loadings, effect of water table on bearing capacity and bearing capacity of foundations with uplift or tension forces.
