Develops an understanding of the analytical approach to the composition and behaviour of traffic and its demands on the road system, and a working knowledge of the functional design of highways. Highway Design. Highway types, capacities and design standards. Capacities and design of intersections. Elements of road design, traffic-stream characteristics, components of the traffic system, sight distance, horizontal, alignment of highways, vertical alignments and climbing lanes.
