Solid state processes. Thermodynamics of roasting processes. Mechanisms of reactions for solid state processes. Metal extraction reactions producing liquid and gaseous metals. Oxidation of sulphides to produce metals. Reduction of metal oxides by carbon. Reduction of oxides and halides by reactive metals. Electrolytic reduction of molten salts. Metal refining processes including zone refining, refining of lead and electrochemical methods of refining. Technology of steelmaking. Typical examples from the local mineral processing industry.
