Overview of international health, patterns of disease and health in developed and developing countries, resurgent and emergent diseases, health impact of globalisation, climate change and militarism. Background and context of primary health care, modelsof health and illness, health program policy, planning and evaluation, health and development, the socio-cultural context of health and illness, the economics of health care, health and community development, community participation. Common major healthproblems - diarrhoea, acute respiratory infections, malnutrition, malaria, tuberculosis, the HIV/AIDS epidemic, family planning and reproductive health.
