Introduction to cell biology. Experimental basis of cell biology, biological molecules, metabolism, enzymes, electron carriers, photosynthesis, cellular respiration, glycolysis, oxidative decarboxylation and phosphorylation. Introduction to genetics. Mitosis, meiosis, life cycles of organisms used in genetic studies. Patterns of inheritance, multiple alleles, blood groups, sex determination, sex-linked characters, protein synthesis, gene regulation and genetic engineering.
