Overview of digital computers and computing. Elements of FORTRAN. Program construction and debugging on PC and UNIX based systems. Information retrieval. Electronic communication. Numerical techniques integration, linear systems of equations, linear least squares, data filtering and algorithm development. Use of existing software and commercial scientific computing packages. Solving physics and geophysics problems.
