Definition and classification of students with impairment, disability and handicap. Policy and practice in meeting the special needs of disabled students. School, family and community contexts. Assessment approaches. The design and implementation of strategies to meet special needs of perceptual-motor, cognitive and social-emotional development. Collaborative approaches, sources of further referral and support in the community.
