This unit provides fundamentals of biochemistry and physiology of aquatic animals. Structure and functions of protieins lipids, carbohydrates and nucleic acids. Enzymes, hormones and neurotransmitters. Major biochemical pathways. Biochemical energetics. Chemistry of body fluids. Comparisons between land and aquatic animals where relevant. Major physiological processes in aquaculture species- respiration and circulation, osmoregulation, digestion, endocrinology, reproductive biology, immunity, and nervoussystem.
