Introduction

This course is designed for those intending to enter the mining industry as an exploration or mining geologist without a strong mathematical background.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

TEE Applicable Mathematics or Discrete Mathematics.

Specific Requirements

STAT elements considered are E and Q.

Note

Well performed applicants without a TEE mathematics subject may be admitted but will be required to complete appropriate bridging and special course units as prescribed. Selection is based primarily on attainment in these subjects.The Associate Degree may be used as a pathway into the science course after satisfactory performance at university. Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

The course is of three years full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation

A mapping project in the final semester is designed to test the ability of each student to work independently, and assimilate various aspects of the syllabus.

Professional Recognition

The course is recognised by the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and the Geological Society of Australia.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.

Special Note

Students may apply for transfer to the Bachelor of Engineering course. Each individual case will be considered on its merit.
