Introduction

This course provides a foundation of leadership studies and business management skills, designed to meet the needs of those in business who seek to understand theories and concepts behind leading organisations and to enhance their leadership and business skills. It develops practical business skills in an environment which recognises the demand for leadership in organisations as integral to future success. The course challenges students to apply the concepts learned in the workplace and to contribute individual experiences. Students complete the core unit Organisational Behaviour 550 which covers organisational development and design, including practical approaches to obtain improved effectiveness and enhance the quality of life at work.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A bachelors degree and a minimum of one years work experience. Applications may be considered from those who do not have a bachelors degree provided they have significant work experience at a recognisable level of responsibility.

Duration and Availability

This fee paying course is one semester full-time or equivalent part-time study. For details of fees and class times please contact the Graduate School of Business.

Course Organisation

The Graduate Business Qualification (equivalent to a Graduate Certificate) is awarded on satisfactory completion of four units. These may be credited as the first stage of the Graduate Diploma in Business, the Master of Leadership and Management or the Master of Business Administration for students subsequently accepted into those programs. Optional units are available which focus on quality management, the legal environment, managing staff performance, managing with a global perspective, marketing, and understanding motivation and people management in the workplace. Depending upon unit selection, graduates may receive a specialisation in their award - Graduate Business Qualification in - Leadership and Management, Managing for Diversity, and Procurement.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
