Syllabus: | This unit examines ways of reducing carbon emissions in our cities and regions through various new technologies, lifestyle and behaviour change programs, urban and regional planning approaches and other end-user policies and initiatives. Low carbon infrastructure and housing design options are analysed and discussed in relation to urban development, and various opportunities to decarbonise remote communities and regions are examined. A basic introduction to carbon accounting and energy rating schemes in buildings is provided and applied to a local business level. Governance approaches to decarbonising cities are examined through international case studies demonstrating best practice. Focusing on the End-User, this unit will provide students with skills and knowledge in decarbonising the economy, through households, businesses and local communities. |
