Major/Stream Entry and Completion Details
The Industrial Optimisation Major is only available to students who enter through a formal articulation agreement from either Yanshan University (China), Wuhan Institute of Technology (China) or Mahidol University (Thailand) and have demonstrated English competency as per Curtin Standard requirements. Refer to articulation agreements text for more information.
Articulation Agreements (Specific)
Yanshan University: Students who have completed Years 1, 2 and 3 of the Bachelor of Management (Industrial Management) at Yanshan University (China) can enter this major. Students will be required to have successfully completed Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 of the YSU Bachelor of Management (Industrial Engineering) and will receive Credit for Recognised Learning (‘CRL’) equivalent to Year 1 and Year 2/400 credits in Curtin’s Bachelor of Science (Industrial Optimisation). Wuhan Institute of Technology: Students who have completed Years 1, 2 and 3 of the Bachelor of Information and Computing Science at Wuhan Institute of Technology (China) can enter this major. Students will be required to have successfully completed Years 1, 2 and 3 of the WIT Bachelor of Information and Computing Science programme [with GPA of 70%] and will receive Credit for Recognised Learning (‘CRL’) equivalent to 400 credits in Curtin’s Bachelor of Science (Industrial Optimisation) program.) Mahidol University: Students who have completed Years 1 and 2 of the Bachelor of Science (Industrial Mathematics) at Mahidol University (Thailand) can enter this major. Students will be required to have successfully completed 75 out of 120 credits of the Mahidol Bachelor of Science (Industrial Mathematics) program including the required Mahidol units listed in table 3.4c (of the Articulation Agreement), and a GPA of at least 2.75. Students will then receive Credit for Recognised Learning (‘CRL’) equivalent to 300 credits in Curtin’s Bachelor of Science (Industrial Optimisation) program).

A graduate of this course can:
1. understand and apply mathematical and statistical principles and concepts in areas such as operations research to solve problems relevant to science, industry, commerce and government
2. apply mathematical and statistical methods to critically analyse problems in industrial optimisation and to think creatively to generate innovative solutions
3. locate, extract and critically appraise relevant evidence and scientific literature in relation to industrial optimisation
4. communicate effectively within the context of industrial optimisation through the written word and by oral presentation
5. use new technologies to effectively gather data and communicate information
6. understand the theoretical framework of industrial optimisation science and work as a responsible, reflective, self-directed and motivated lifelong learner
7. be aware of the diversity of international perspectives and apply international standards of practice within their profession
8. respect the rights of individuals and the importance of cultural diversity within the scientific field
9. display high levels of professional behaviour both independently and as a team member through the use of ethical practices within the scientific field
