Syllabus: Vertebrate animals investigates the diversity of vertebrate life in a phylogenetic context. The taxonomy, evolution, ecology, ethology, anatomy and physiology of all major groups of vertebrate animals are examined. The unit highlights the integration of structure and function and examines patterns of organisation with an evolutionary approach. Specialisations and adaptations of vertebrate animals to their environment will be investigated, revealing a wide diversity of biological mechanisms, processes and responses.
