Syllabus: This unit brings together the histories, concepts, theories and issues explored in all the previous six Borneo Studies units. It requires students to formulate a specific contemporary Borneo-related topic or issue, as derived from previous units, which has to be of relevance to one particular Indigenous community. The chosen topic or issue will be developed further and researched under the supervision and with the guidance of at least one Borneo Studies academic staff. The topic or issue in question will be progressively formulated through consultation and seminar participation. The research process will involve assessed literature review as well as actual on-location fieldwork carried out within a particular Indigenous community. The outcomes of research carried out about the chosen topic or issue will be presented formally in seminar and in the form of an academic-style dissertation.
