Syllabus: The unit aims to provide a broad understanding of equine health, how it can be measured and the impact of disease on a healthy animal. Topics covered include: effects of management and training factors on the occurrence of various diseases, aspects of feeding that can contribute to disease, common dental abnormalities and diseases in the horse, common parasitic (worm) disorders of the horse, recognition of lameness in the horse and the means by which lameness can be investigated, equine therapeutics, first aid and preventative medicine.
