Prerequisite(s): 8142 (v.4) Physics 201 or any previous version
Syllabus: Principles of mass spectrometer operation. Ion optics, ion sources, mass dispersion and detectors. Data acquisition. Measurement of isotopic abundance. Automation. Isotope dilution and measurements of amount substance. Modern mass spectrometers includingTIMS and SHRIMP. A selection of modern applications in fields such as health science, geoscience, planetary science, nucleoastrophysics and metrology.
